Williams Route 66 Marathon Makes $25,000 Donation,
Announces Corporate Challenge Winners


Tulsa, OK (February 25, 2014)

The Williams Route 66 Marathon made a $25,000 donation to the Tulsa Area United Way and announced the 2013 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Corporate Challenge Cup winners on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Williams theater located at One Williams Center in Downtown Tulsa, OK.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Corporate Challenge is designed to promote health and wellness in the workplace and foster friendly competition within the business community. The 2013 event experienced a 50% growth in participation with 27 teams and 850 runners participating.

"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is proud to sponsor the Corporate Challenge competition at the Williams Route 66 Marathon," said Ted Haynes, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma President. "We encourage companies to participate and engage their employees in physical activities and promote active lifestyles, as we all work towards a healthier Tulsa."

The 2013 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Corporate Challenge participants were split into five divisions based on the number of employees. The Division 1 winner with over 1,000 employees is Williams; the Division 2 winner with 500 - 999 employees is WPX Energy; the Division 3 winner with 250-499 employees is YMCA of Greater Tulsa; the Division 4 winner with 50-249 employees is AAA of Oklahoma; the Division 5 winner with 1-49 employees is Miratech.

"This marathon is a fantastic event for Tulsa because it promotes health and fitness in our city, draws athletic talent from all over the world and contributes to our local economy," said Alan Armstrong, Williams President and Chief Executive Officer. "I'm extremely proud of the many Williams employees who have volunteered and supported this marathon over the years, not to mention those determined individuals who have participated in and completed this great challenge. We appreciate the efforts of all who make this positive event possible for our hometown and we look forward to supporting it in the years ahead."

The Tulsa Area United Way is the main benefactor of the Williams Route 66 Marathon, receiving $134,000 from the event in the past eight years. Through its 61 partner agencies, Tulsa Area United Way provides much-needed support to more than 650,000 people every year.

About the Williams Route 66 Marathon

The ninth annual Williams Route 66 Marathon weekend, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is set for Saturday and Sunday, November 22-23, 2014 in Tulsa, OK. The Williams Route 66 Marathon weekend includes the two-day St. Francis Health, Fitness and Sustainability Expo, marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K run and walk, and a one-mile fun run and walk, and the ever-popular mascot dash. Post-race activities at Tulsa's Guthrie Green in the Brady Arts District include music, food trucks, a car show and fun for the entire family.

The Williams Route 66 Marathon is committed to sustainability and is the only event in Oklahoma to earn the ReSport Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport for its green practices.
