Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Qualifies for National Championship Regatta

May 14, Tulsa, OK - The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors competed at the Central Youth Regatta in Oklahoma City this past weekend. The team represented Tulsa well by qualifying for a spot at the US Rowing Youth Nationals Regatta in the Junior Women's Varsity Fours event. The crew of Anne Philpot (Regent), Victoria Richter (Cascia Hall), Emily Hyde (Holland Hall), Madison Davidson (Jenks) and Katie Grantham (Booker T. Washington) rowed an exceptional race, finishing second in their event and only 1.2 seconds behind the regional champions. The top two finishers in the race qualify to represent the region at the US Rowing Youth Nationals Regatta, June 8-10, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Head Coach Neil Bergenroth was proud of the girls' silver medal finish. "This is an exciting development for our program," he said, "and I know this crew will represent Tulsa Rowing Club to the best of their ability at Nationals."

The boys team was also well represented, with Mason Fuller (Cascia Hall) and Nathan Klammer (Edison High School) winning a bronze medal for their third-place finish in the Junior Men's Open Pair. The team also placed 4th and 5th in the Junior Men's Varsity Lightweight Fours. In the Junior Men's Novice Fours, John Lohrey (Holland Hall), Michael Rose (Holland Hall), Max Duenner (Holland Hall), Aaron Pohl (Holland Hall) and Garrett Allan (Union) placed 5th. In the Junior Men's Varsity Quad, Warren White (Cascia Hall), Baruch Price (Home School), Riley Price (Cascia Hall) and Logan Gilstrap (Broken Arrow) placed 5th in a competitive field.

On the second day of regional championship rowing, the girls varsity team placed 4th in the final of the Women's Varsity Eight. In addition, the boys varsity four, consisting of Logan Gilstrap (Broken Arrow), Warren White (Cascia Hall), Baruch Price (Home School), Christopher Atik (Cascia Hall) and Dan Vinyard (Cascia Hall), rowed well enough to qualify for the final and went on to take 6th place in the region. "Our program had a great day and has made some great improvements over last year's results. I am very proud of our athletes," commented Coach Bergenroth. Boy's Varsity Coach Micah Hartwell said that the strong results, "showed that the Tulsa Rowing Club is a legitimate contender at this level of competition." The Tulsa Rowing Club is running four one-week camps in the month of June to provide the opportunity for any 7th through 12th grade athlete to try the sport for the first time.
