Herron Finishes Ninth in Women's Marathon at Pan Am Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Oklahoma City University assistant cross country coach Camille Herron finished ninth in the women’s marathon at the XVI Pan American Games on Sunday.

Herron finished with a time of two hours, 51 minutes and 29 seconds while competing for the United States.

“It was way harder than I anticipated,” Herron said. “It was a matter of survival and I learned a lot from it.”

According OCU head cross country coach Conor Holt, Herron turned a solid run under terrible conditions for running.

“If you consider altitude plus the heat we were probably 10 to 15 minutes off what we could run at sea level under ideal conditions,” Herron said. “I was so focused on trying to finish and place as high as I could, and it was an honor to represent the U.S.”

Adriana Da Silva of Brazil won the event with a time of 2:36:37. Herron was the only American runner to finish the race.
