Redman Triathlon Triumphs With Athletes From Across United States

Twelve-hundred triathletes from forty-two states and three countries competed in the 2015 Redman Triathlon at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City on Saturday, September 26.  Many top triathletes participated to learn the course, which will be the site of the 2016 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Long Distance Triathlon World Championships.

Triathletes from elite to beginner competed in the Redman Triathlon.

This is the 11th year of the Redman Triathlon in Oklahoma City.  Race Director David Wood said, “The Redman has grown every year and become such a popular event because of the dedication of our sponsors and volunteers.  This year we had more than 1,100 volunteers who gave their time to support the athletes, community and sport of triathlon.”

Wood says corporate sponsors have provided the resources to make the Redman Triathlon a world-class event.  “Our sponsors’ commitment to excellence helps us provide a great experience for athletes and spectators,” he added.

“Redman’s track record was an important element that allowed us to obtain the world championships next year when Oklahoma City becomes only the third U.S. site to host the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships. As we host the world championships next year, it will take the entire city’s help.  The race will attract triathletes from 42 countries and the economic impact is expected to double to $7 million,” Wood said.

This year’s Redman Triathlon was staged on a course that wraps around Lake Hefner in northwest Oklahoma City.  Brett Crossland of Wichita Falls, Texas, was the men’s full triathlon winner, with a time of 9 hours, 57 minutes, 39 seconds.   Joannah Graham of Plano, Texas, took first in the women’s full triathlon with a time of 11 hours, 30 minutes, 5 seconds.
